The city of Killeen is located in Bell County in Texas. With a population of approximately 130,000, it is not a major city but it is a principle city in its region. The main cantonment of Fort Hood is right next to the city and this intertwines the economy of the soldiers and their families with that of Killeen. Initially a small, isolated farming community, this changed in 1942 when a military post was created to meet the demands of the Second World War.
